Frank Wideman

The Self Family Foundation
Frank Wideman is a native of Washington DC. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Frank served 24 years as a career field artillery officer in the United States Army retiring in 1993 as a lieutenant colonel.  Since then, he has served as president of the Self Family Foundation in Greenwood, South Carolina.  Frank has been active in organized philanthropy as a founding member and first chair of the South Carolina Grantmakers Network; a trustee and chair of the Southeastern Council of Foundations; a member of the Council on Foundations Family Foundations Committee; and a board member of the National Center for Family Philanthropy.   In addition, Frank served as the chair of the South Carolina Chapter of the Nature Conservancy; chair of the Palmetto Trust for Historic Preservation; and board member of the South Carolina United Way.  Frank lives on a fifth generation family farm (built in 1825) near Bradley, South Carolina, with his wife Lisa, six dogs, and a cat.
