On the second evening of the conference, Thursday, Oct. 17, from 4:30-6 p.m., don't miss Clips and Conversation with America to Me, a 10-part documentary series that presents an exclusive look into an academic year at suburban Chicago's Oak Park and River Forest High School. Students, teachers and administrators from one of the country's highest performing and diverse public schools are profiled in the face of decades-old racial and educational inequities. The series delves into the experiences of the racially diverse student population, sparking conversations about what has and has not succeeded in the quest to achieve racial equity and overcome bias in education.
During the session, we'll watch several clips and have a conversation with a panel about the role giving families can play in shifting the narrative around race issues. We'll also explore how to create a film campaign that mirrors the fundamentals of issue campaigning, and the role that independent filmmakers can play in fostering greater understanding of pressing social issues.
